What is a Feline Leukemia and FIV combo test?

Both Feline Leukemia and FIV are caused by viruses. It will take several months after coming in contact with an infected cat before a test will be positive for these viruses. It may take several years before a cat actually becomes ill and shows the signs of these diseases, so testing is very important.

These diseases affect your cat's immune system, so an infected cat can not fight off illness as easily as a cat who is not infected with these viruses.

All new cat's coming into your home should be tested; as well as any sick cat - even a cat who has tested clear of these diseases in the past should be retested.  

Spread of these diseases can occur from a single encouter from a seemingly friendly and healthy stray or neighbor's cat.

Only a cat that has been tested twice, with several months between the tests, who has been kept inside away from other cats can truly be considered free of these deadly diseases.
